HD Tubular Cleaning Unit: Industrial Tube Cleaning Machine
Our HD Tubular Cleaning Unit by R&R Manufacturing is an industrial tube cleaning machine designed for both inside and outside diameter cleaning of drill pipes and tubing/casing. While primarily engineered for oilfield applications, it is equally effective for a wide range of industrial pipe cleaning needs. This heavy-duty unit provides the most cost-effective way to get pipes thoroughly cleaned and inspection-ready.
One of R&R’s flagship drill pipe and tubing cleaning machines, the HD model is ideal for tubular goods ranging from 2⅜” up to 6⅝” OD drill pipe and 2⅜” up to 7⅝” OD tubing/casing when using dry cleaning methods. It is rated for up to 50 lb/ft and is available in Range 2 and Range 3 lengths.
For wet cleaning operations, the HD unit is rated for up to 100 lb/ft and supporting water blast pressures up to 40,000 psi. For 6⅝ and up or ultra high-pressure cleaning requirements, R&R’s SuperMax Tubular Cleaning Unit is recommended – unlike the base and HD models, the SuperMax features traversing cleaning heads to handle extreme applications.
The HD unit is capable of cleaning up to 400 joints per 8-hour shift (size and cleanliness dependent), averaging approximately one joint per minute.
Features That Make our Tube Cleaning Machines Stand Out From The Rest
- Load-Sensing Hydraulic Pump: Only uses the necessary power required to run the equipment, reducing energy costs and lowering operating temperatures.
- Load-Independent Directional Valves: Maintain constant pressure and flow regardless of other functions being performed, ensuring power is directed only as required.
- Efficient OD Cleaning Brush: The outside-diameter cleaning brush removes rust and debris quickly and efficiently, getting the pipe inspection-ready faster. The brush height is easily adjustable via a hydraulic cylinder, eliminating time-consuming manual adjustments.
- Dual OD Brushes (HD Model): The HD Tubular Cleaning Unit features not one but two OD cleaning brush assemblies. This dual-brush design doubles the cleaning coverage, resulting in even faster production rates and quicker project timetables.
- Maintenance-Friendly Design: The brush shaft and shoulder bolts are engineered with wrench flats for easy maintenance. Their optimized thread design and orientation help reduce contamination and prevent thread galling.
- Patent-Pending Lance Supports: R&R’s innovative lance support system comes standard on all cleaning units (and can be retrofitted to other pipe cleaning machines). These supports stabilize the internal cleaning lance to prevent vibration or damage, especially around threaded connections.
- Remote Operator Panel: A remote electric operator control pedestal gives the operator a panoramic view of the entire machine during operation. This improves both efficiency and safety by allowing the operator to control the unit from up to 10 feet away with clear visibility.
Standard Features of the HD Tube Cleaning Machine
- Robust OD Brush Assemblies: Two wire-brush assemblies for outside diameter cleaning (total of 14 wire brushes, each 2” wide by 10” in diameter) effectively remove scale, rust, and debris from the pipe exterior. The brush assemblies feature a floating pneumatic suspension to accommodate minor pipe diameter variations.
- Integrated ID Cleaning System: Inside diameter cleaning is performed via a rigid lance that can accommodate either a rattling motor or a high-pressure water jet attachment. A soft-impact support system centers the lance and absorbs shocks, reducing the possibility of damaging pipe threads during the cleaning process.
- Dual Cyclonic Dust Collectors: Two cyclonic dust and debris collection systems capture and contain contaminants during dry-cleaning operations. Dust-laden air is forced into a steel tapered cyclone, separating heavy particles into a debris cabinet, while fine dust is vented safely outside the building.
- 40 HP Hydraulic Power Pack: A 40-HP electric-powered hydraulic system drives all brushes, conveyors, and pipe-handling mechanisms efficiently. This powerful hydraulic pack ensures smooth operation of the unit’s moving parts even under heavy loads.
- Flexible Loading Configuration: The HD unit can be configured for either left-hand or right-hand tubular loading, allowing it to adapt to various facility layouts and workflow preferences.
- Powered Conveyors: Infeed and outfeed conveyors with 6-foot wheel spacing steadily feed tubular goods through the cleaning chamber at adjustable speeds. The variable feed rate control lets operators optimize cleaning contact time for different levels of scale or debris.
- User-Friendly Controls: An operator- and maintenance-friendly electric control pedestal is included. It can be positioned up to 10 feet away from the cleaning unit, keeping personnel at a safe distance while providing full control over all functions.
Optional Features
- Sound/Debris Enclosures: Optional full enclosures are available to reduce noise levels below 85 dB and to contain dust and debris, improving operator comfort and environmental safety.
- Advanced Dust Filtration: An upgraded dust and debris collection system with filtered exhaust is offered. Dust is drawn across high-efficiency cartridge filter elements, virtually eliminating airborne particles and returning clean air to the environment.
- Bag House Filtration System: For intensive dust control needs, a bag house filtration system can be added to handle large volumes of fine particulate and ensure compliance with strict air quality requirements.
- OD Scale Removal System: An outside-diameter extreme scale and rust removal attachment can be added for pipes with heavy corrosion. This system applies additional scraping/impact force to strip away thick scale that the standard brushes might not remove on their own.
- Range 3 Capacity Upgrade: The HD unit can be optionally configured to accommodate Range 3 length tubulars (longer drill pipe joints up to ~45 ft in length), extending the machine’s handling capacity for extra-long pipes.
- Small Diameter Modification: A small OD pipe modification kit is available to handle tubulars down to 1½” outside diameter, allowing the cleaning of smaller pipes or tubing outside the standard size range.
- Internal Diameter Drifting: An ID drifting attachment can be integrated, enabling the unit to verify the pipe’s internal diameter clearance after cleaning. This option ensures that each joint meets minimum ID requirements by passing a drift through the length of the pipe.
- High-Pressure Water Blast Package: For wet cleaning applications, the HD can be outfitted with a water blasting accessory package rated up to 40,000 psi. This high-pressure system delivers an aggressive cleaning action inside the pipe, ideal for removing hardened deposits or for situations where dry brushing alone is insufficient.
Building and Service Requirements
Electrical: Requires 230/480 VAC, 3-phase, 50/60 Hz power supply at 200/100 amps. Alternate voltages available upon request.
Pneumatic: 110 psi compressed air supply – approximately 175 CFM for operations with an ID rattling motor, or 45 CFM for non-rattling (standard) operations.
Installation Footprint: Adequate floor space is required per layout drawing #10900.116 (available from R&R). Ensure sufficient length for conveyors and clearance around the unit for maintenance access.
